You can generally cruise to Quebec City in the summer and early fall. Quebec City is a traditional French destination but in North America. There are several cruise lines that stop in Quebec City as you cruise up the Lawrence River. There’s plenty of history to be had in Old Quebec, and it’s all very French. Try to use the language if you can. People will ignore you if you don’t at least try to use French. Most people speak both English and French but it is both traditional and a culturally sensitive topic.

There are years of history about Quebec wanting to become its own country. This is largely because of language and there’s all kinds of laws about having to do everything in two languages in Quebec. So, you know, enjoy this little piece of French culture in in North America.

Old Quebec is a UNESCO World Heritage site

Old Quebec is a picturesque, walkable and safe city. Enjoy the cobblestone streets and the many restaurants and shops of the only fortified city north of Mexico. See the remains of the Saint‑Louis Forts which lie beneath this iconic promenade. Chateau Frontenac is always in view as Quebec City’s most famous landmark. It is also the most photographed hotel in the world. There’s plenty of entertainment in the summer months, and be sure to come back in the winter for the toboggan run.

On your cruise to Quebec City, be sure to spend some time at Dufferin Terrace for an amazing view of the St. Lawrence River and Chateau Frontenac. Lord Dufferin was a governor general of Canada who loved Québec City. The the terrace is so popular that it has been expanded twice since it was first built. Enjoy the many restaurants and shops while you are there. I especially like anything made with dates, and there’s plenty of date treats to be found in Quebec.
