While in Wurzburg I would suggest doing three main things, The Residence Palace (which is a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site) , the “Marienberg” Fortress, and the “Alte Mainbrücke,” a historic bridge crossing over the Main river. You’ll have plenty of time on your European river cruise.

If you start with the Prince Bishop’s Palace, or “The Residence”, you can participate in an English language tour. After lunch, you will have time to make your way up to the Marienberg Fortress. There is a wonderful view of the Wurzburg from the top, but requires a long walk uphill. The bridge lies in between the two, and you can conveniently cross over it on your way from one side of the Main River to the other.

Enjoy the Food in Wurzburg

If you have time for a meal, you may stop at Alte Mainmühle. It is on the “Alte Mainbrücke” bridge. You can have a drink on the terrace, or Franconian specialties for lunch of dinner inside. If you’re looking to have dinner, reservations are suggested to make sure you get a seat.

Other must sees include the Dom St. Killan Cathedral, the Pilgrimage Church “Käppele”and the Churches “Marienkapelle” and “Neumünster”.

Here’s some of our favorite river cruise options for you to discover Europe: Viking River Cruises, AMA Waterways, and Avalon Waterways. This doesn’t include all possible cruises. So contact us if you are looking for a different cruise line or a specific destination.
