Most people don’t think of Louisville as a cruise destination but when it comes to river cruises, it’s a must stop.  My first trip to Louisville Kentucky was is 1981 and I actually got to see Secretariat.  I’ve got a bunch of pictures somewhere.  Even if you are not a big horse fan, you can’t help but be impressed by the farms in the area.  There are lots of green rolling hills in central Kentucky.

What would you do with one day in Louisville? The perfect time to visit this wonderful old city would be during The Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. What excitement that radiates through the city. There are beautiful hats worn by the ladies at the races, wonderful food and don’t forget those great mint juleps.

Louisville Slugger

If you weren’t there during that time there is still no shortage of attractions to keep you busy and entertained. The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, a museum located in Louisville, Kentucky’s “Museum Row” in the West Main District of downtown, showcases the history of the Louisville Slugger brand of baseball. The Kentucky Science Center is Kentucky’s largest hands-on science museum. Cave Hill Cemetery offers tours of the visitors the chance to see several famous Civil War memorials.

The Belle of Louisville is a steamboat that operates from the downtown port. A ride on the steamboat is really like stepping into the past.

The downtown area near the wharf hosts wonderful shops, bars and restaurants. There are park benches and wonderful gardens along the shore.  And just like that your cruise day is over, and time to get back on your riverboat for your next exciting destination.
