Basel Switzerland has a lot to offer, even if you only have one day to check out the sights. It is the perfect place to walk around and explore the beautiful architecture. They offer free walking tours through out the city. You have different options depending on the day you will be there. If you would like to explore on your own – without a guide – the old town is something that is not to be missed. The old town includes the Marketplatz. They often have outside open air markets depending on the day you will be there and the Rathaus, which is beautifully decorated and designed.

Where Countries Come Together

Basel Switzerland is also unique because it borders France and Germany, making the Three Countries Bridge a must see. When crossing the bridge you will arrive in Huningue, France, don’t worry there is not border patrol here and it is a simple and stress-free walk. Having been there, I can truly say it is a quaint and beautiful French town. There are many restaurants in the square directly after you leave the bridge that are worth checking out if you enjoy French cuisine. Finally, if you still have time, Basel offers many incredibly interesting museums. There is the Kunsthaus which has been newly renovated and updated art collections, the Paper Museum which is located in a paper mill and finally the History Museum.
