The Castle of Ioannina was built in 1848 by Ottoman governor Ali Pasha and named after his son, Yorgi. The name Yorgi means George in Greek and was a common name for boys in Greece during that period. Today visitors can take a guided tour of The Castle of Ioannina to learn about local history. Tours are available seven days a week from 10:00am until 6:00pm.
