Cape Girardeau is a picturesque Southern city, about two hours from St. Louis Missouri and two hours the other way to Memphis Tennessee.

This is a wonderful place to spend the day. You can visit the Cape Farmer’s Market and buy fresh, local produce as well as try some local baked specialties.

Drive along the Mississippi

Each spring you can be part of the Annual Mississippi River Valley Scenic Drive. This is a wonderful annual celebration all through the area with special events, festivals and outdoor adventures set up to welcome in spring after a long winter.

You may want to drive through the Lazy L Safari Park to get up close and personal with some wild animals in their natural habitat. After that, head over to the local wineries for the afternoon. The local wineries offer picnic lunches, wine and food pairings and tastings, and wonderful scenery. You can just stop by or make reservations for lunch or dinner.

Dining in Cape Girardeau

This city is right along the Mississippi River and home to some of the best food of the south. Be sure to be conscious of when your boat sails. You wouldn’t want to have an unpleasant surprise after your dining experience. There are no shortage of waterfront restaurants and great downtown places, which share space with some wonderful arts and antique shops, in order to give you the very best flavor of the city. And don’t forget to have a mint julep, a local favorite.

Visit the iconic Red House Interpretive Center. The center showcases the history and culture of Cape Girardeau and features a range of exhibits and displays.

Explore the scenic Riverfront Park. There are stunning views of the Mississippi River and features walking trails, picnic areas, and outdoor sculptures.

Take a stroll through downtown Cape Girardeau. There are a variety of boutique shops, art galleries, and restaurants, as well as historic buildings and landmarks.

Visit the Glenn House. This is a beautifully preserved Victorian mansion that offers guided tours and a glimpse into life in the late 1800s.

Take in a show or performance at the historic River Campus. It features a state-of-the-art theater and a variety of cultural events throughout the year.

If time permits, consider taking a drive out to nearby Trail of Tears State Park. There are hiking trails, fishing, and stunning views of the surrounding natural beauty.
